Applications Now Open for SBC’s InsurTech Accelerator 2019 Program

SBC InsurTech begins Global Search for the Best InsurTech Talent to Join 2019 Accelerator Program in Hartford.

After a highly successful first year of The InsurTech Accelerator, applications for the accelerator program’s second year are now open. Apply here.

The InsurTech Accelerator, part of Hartford InsurTech Hub, powered by Startupbootcamp is a three-month intensive program, that offers insurance-focused technology startups the chance to rapidly scale, through impactful collaboration with our impressive network of insurance companies, investors, and industry expert mentors. The selected companies will also receive extensive support and advice from hundreds of entrepreneurs, program alumni, and world-renowned businesses relevant to the insurance industry. We enable 10 InsurTech startups to deliver in three months the same results it would take them 12 to 18 months to achieve on their own.

For the duration of the three month program, startups will relocate to Hartford, Connecticut, a world leading insurance city located on the doorstep of New York and Boston, and become an integral part of the City’s rapidly growing innovation and InsurTech ecosystem.

If you’re curious to know more, we want to meet you! We’ve started our international FastTrack tour and are traveling around the world seeking the most forward-thinking entrepreneurs who are changing insurance.

What are we looking for?

InsurTech startups are harnessing emerging technologies to provide a better service to a more digitally wise customer base. They are developing new innovative products that provide incumbents with the opportunity to improve their own business models — such as reducing distribution and claims handling costs — and as a result establish a firmer grip on on the insurance industry’s rapidly changing terrain. The need for incumbent and startup collaboration is only growing stronger, something demonstrated by the fact that InsurTech investment deals reached a new high in the first quarter of 2018. $724m of investment was seen globally in the InsurTech sector in Q1 of 2018, a 155% increase in investment from Q1 of 2017.

Having gone through The InsurTech Accelerator program last year, several of the startups in our inaugural cohort have begun promising partnerships with large insurance companies, thus demonstrating the increasing InsurTech-Incumbent collaboration trend.

Some of the success stories from last year’s cohort include:

  • Aureus Analytics, a customer intelligence and experience company, has secured pilots with several insurers including partners on the program;
  • Boundlss, helps health & life insurers attract, reward & retain healthy members, has completed a pilot with a leading US insurance provider;
  • Rozie AI, an AI platform to design personalized customer engagement and robust business intelligence solutions for enterprises, has completed a proof of concept; is working to explore a pilot with a US insurer, and is exploring opportunities within a claims organization;
  • SecureHome, a smart home IoT solution that provides critical security needed for every smart home, is running 3 pilots with insurance companies that are core program partners;
  • ViewSpection, an app and web platform that enables a policyholder to do their own property inspection, has secured more than 10 pilots with insurance companies or companies related to their business, including program partners.

While some InsurTechs are focusing directly on customer experience, others are looking internally at an insurers’ core processes, such as sales & marketing, underwriting & pricing, customer acquisition & retention, and claims. These startups are identifying gaping holes in the insurance value chain and filling them: many are using emerging technologies in their propositions. Some are focusing on various lines of business, such as agriculture, property, motor, health, life & pension, and liability.

We’re especially on the lookout for talented InsurTech companies that are innovating in the P&C, Commercial and Specialty Lines, Health, Life, Annuities and Retirement spaces. However, any startup across these lines of business or technology types that are shown below are invited to apply:

What is a FastTrack?

FastTracks are a series of events we host all over the globe. They are an opportunity for the Startupbootcamp team to meet and support the best talent in InsurTech and to connect startups with carefully, hand-picked expert mentors.

Startups who attend our FastTracks present their businesses and then receive invaluable one-to-one feedback and advice from industry experts, mentors, and partners. The startups and mentors create connections and are able to remain in contact long after the event has ended. Startups also learn more about our accelerator program and are able to ask questions and see if it is a right fit for them. See our FastTrack video below for more details.

As well as FastTracks, we also be hosting Office Hour events on the tour. Office Hours consist of one-to-one meetings between the Startupbootcamp team and the startup. They generally take place in person, but interested startups with strong propositions that are unable to attend can meet us virtually.

If you want to join us on our FastTrack tour, be sure to apply to one of the location listed in the table above.

Alternatively, you can apply directly for the accelerator program here.
