Selection Days 2019

Hartford InsurTech Hub, powered by Startupbootcamp, is getting ready for the third year of its Accelerator Program. The program is set to begin in early February, will run for 3 months and will provide 10 talented startups with the support, resources and industry experts they need to help grow their budding business. Hartford InsurTech Hub’s scouting team has spoken and reviewed more than 355 startups, from 56 countries, for the accelerator and it has been a challenge to whittle 355 applications to the Top 21 finalists for Selection Days. Selection Days are an integral event in which we choose the final 10 startups that will participate in the program.

The Top 21 startups have been invited to attend the Selection Days at Upward Hartford from November 12th until November 13th.

The Selection Days have two key objectives: the first is to ensure that the Top 21 startups understand what being part of Hartford InsurTech Hub about. Secondly, the 2 days will give the Hartford InsurTech Hub team, as well as the program partners, the opportunity to examine the Top 21 startups and help in the selection of the final ten.

All of the startups will be arriving in Hartford for November 11th, where they will complete an internal preparation day. The first day will help the startups get the most value out of the second and third days when they meet with partners and mentors. Startups will participate in several workshops that include everything from the value proposition and pitch training to mentor management and mock rotations.

The two remaining days are where the program’s mentors, investors, and partners have the opportunity to assess the Top 21 startups. The mentors are made up of experts in fields such as marketing, sales, lean methodology, and investment and industry experts from across insurance, finance, and technology fields. Startup rotations take up a significant part of both days 2 and 3. This consists of each team have 20-minute rotation sessions with the mentors and partners to receive the product, investment, and business strategy feedback.

The advice from the mentors and partners are invaluable for the startups. This advice helps team members grow and develop as entrepreneurs. At the end of the last day, there is a deliberation period between the corporate partners and several Hartford InsurTech Hub team members. This is followed up with an announcement of the 10 startups that have been selected to join the program.

Selections Days are intense with a meticulous schedule, but there are regular breaks to relax, eat, and socialize.
